About the Register of Deeds Office

The Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds Office is responsible for recording, indexing, and storing all real estate and business-related documents that are presented for registration. The office also issues marriage licenses, administers notary oaths, records DD-214 forms (military discharge documents), and serves as the custodian of Vital records such as birth, death, and marriage certificates. 

During office hours, the public may search the public records from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the vault area.

Marriage Licensure

The Register of Deeds Office issues marriage licenses, which may be used throughout the State of North Carolina and serves as the custodian of Vital records, including marriage certificates.

Recording and Real Estate

The Register of Deeds Office is the official repository for all public records related to real property located in Mecklenburg County. The office records, maintains, and safeguards these and other public records presented for registration. Real estate documents include real estate conveyances, deeds of trust and mortgages, powers of attorney, assumed names, separation agreements and maps/plats.
